Ramayana - Why did Shri Ram become sad after returning to Ayodhya from exile?
What should Shri Ram Prabhu see after reaching Ayodhya? - When Shri Ram returned to Ayodhya after 14 years of exile and defeating Ravana, lamps were lit all over India. Shri Ram had landed from Pushpak Viman in Nandigram of Ayodhya near Bharat's hut. There were many other kings with him, Vibhishana, Sugriva, Angad, Nal, Neel, Jamwant and Hanuman ji. From there Shri Ram Prabhu rode on a big chariot, along with Mother Sita and Lakshman, the young men and women accompanying him were shouting slogans of Jai Ghosh. People were spreading flowers on the streets, elders and mothers were all giving blessings. There were tears of happiness in everyone's eyes, Bharat too had tears in his eyes and was walking in front of the chariot with folded hands. Then Shri Ram called Lord Bharat to himself, and said to Bharat - My dear brother, are people not happy with my coming to Ayodhya after 14 years of exile? Bharat had tears in his eyes. Bharat Shri Ram said to the Lord, Lord, what are you saying? To see this day, tears had dried in my and the eyes of the people of Ayodhya for fourteen years. There are tears in my eyes today due to the joy of your arrival. Bharat again asked, Lord, why did this question come to your mind? See how happy the people of Ayodhya are today, happiness is visible all around. On this Shri Ram Prabhu said, the mothers who were with our mother are also visible, the youth who grew up playing with me and you are also visible, mothers, sisters and elders are also visible. But my younger brother, no children have been seen in the entire city of Ayodhya till now, are the children not happy on my arrival? Are they not happy at the arrival of their aunt and uncle? Bharat said with tears in his eyes - O my eldest brother, my Lord, how much this Ayodhya loves you - since the day you left for exile in the guise of an ascetic and celibate. From that day till today no person from Ayodhya has adopted household life, everyone has followed celibacy as an ascetic. Hearing this, Lord Shri Ram's eyes filled with tears. This love of the people of Ayodhya for Shri Ram Prabhu was unimaginable.
